The purpose of Ganapathi Bappa
Ganapathi Bappa was created from a personal feeling that Ganapathi is present in every worthy beginning and influences how we approach every task. This space is an attempt to look beyond ritual alone and understand the wisdom contained in his form, wisdom that can guide thought, desire, responsibility and action.
Much of what is written here began as a habit rather than a project: remembering Ganapathi before starting work, and slowly noticing that the form itself was answering the difficulties of the work. The ears when a conversation went badly. The mouse on the days when wanting was loudest. The single tusk when something had to be given up so a promise could be kept.
The site holds what came of that noticing, written down plainly so that someone else might find it useful.
What this is
- A devotional and educational offering, freely available.
- An encouragement to reflect, not a set of instructions to obey.
- Respectful of the many traditions in which Ganapathi is worshipped: in Maharashtra, in Andhra and Telangana, in Tamil Nadu, in Karnataka, and wherever families have carried the practice with them.
The one thing that is sold
Everything written here is free and always will be. One thing is not: Ganapathi Dangle, a small desktop ornament, costs ₹99 once. It is a thing I made, not a teaching, and it is kept in its own corner of the site for that reason. It promises nothing beyond being pleasant to have on a screen.
Nothing else will ever be behind a payment. The teachings, the prayers, the stories and the practice are the point of this site, and putting them behind a price would be a betrayal of what they say.
What this is not
- Not a replacement for guidance from qualified spiritual teachers or from traditional sources. Where something here matters to you, take it to someone who knows.
- Not an authority on scripture. Stories are told as they are commonly told, and where an attribution is uncertain, the page says so instead of sounding confident.
- Not a promise of fortune. Nothing here claims that prayer will remove a difficulty from your life; the teaching is about how to meet it.
On accuracy
Sanskrit verses on this site are traditional and are never composed. Prayers written in plain English are labelled as such. The symbolic readings throughout are contemplation, offered as one devotee’s reflection rather than as the settled meaning of a text.
If you find an error, in a verse or a transliteration or a story or an attribution, it is worth correcting, and the correction is welcome.
What this site knows about you
This site counts visits with Google Analytics. It records which pages are opened, roughly where in the world from, and which parts of a page were used: a teaching read, a prayer opened, an app downloaded. That is the whole of it.
There are no adverts here and never will be. Advertising and personalisation signals are switched off, so nothing collected is used to follow you anywhere else, and nothing is sold. Nothing you type is recorded, because nothing here asks you to type. If you would rather not be counted, any content blocker will stop it, and the site works exactly the same without it.
